Make yourself an Expert

July 9th, 2008 by VPA

Your succesful internet presence doesn’t come from thousands of dollars, it comes from dedicated work on your part to make yourself as an Expert in your field.

If you want to know more about corporate strategy, market penetration, paradigm shifts, business models, strategic partnerships or any other business buzz word flavour of the week, then by all means go to one of the companies who specialise in internet marketing . And pay the appropriate thousands of dollars of course.

I am not joking, I’ve seen businesses which charge you over $2000 for ‘web recognition’.

However, on your own, you can establish yourself as an expert in your field, indeed you can become a celebrity in your chosen field

Brand yourself : Think of yourself as a Brand Name. Just like a brand name you will stand for something specific to a particular group of people.

Catch Phrase : Get yourself a concise phrase or motto that sums up who you are, what you do and the unique way that you do it

People don’t have time to absorb your whole story at first glance. Give them a simple message that quickly cuts through the clutter and leaves no doubt it lets potential fans
know why they want to know more about you.

Email : Turn your e-mail program into one of your most valuable
communication tools. Every email carries your Catch Phrase and your Signature.

Write : Sit down and write regular ezine and blog submissions.

  • Ezines are still important, either publish yourself or get a VPA who will set up and broadcast for you.
  • Get a blog and post for just a few moments at least three times per week.
  • Submit articles to Article Directories. Sign up for a few. Start with Ezine Articles.
  • Submit Press Releases. Read a lot of press releases before you send out your own, gave a look at examples at PR Web

Make a Media Room. For credibility with the media, set up a media page on your site. Give all of your contact details, suggested interview questions, photos of yourself (action pics of you at work are good) any video clips of yourself and teaser sheet of hot tips a journalist can use.
